Acne, is a skin disease which shows itself as black, white and red dots mostly on the face, shoulders and back, particularly between the ages of 12-18, which is called puberty. Acne vulgaris is most commonly seen during puberty , however, it also can be seen in babies, until the age of 30 and after the age of 30. Acne has many reasons : hormonal factors, insufficient facial hygene, stress and psychological problems, intolerance against certain food groups and genetic predisposition are just a few of these reasons. Acne lesions have certain types : White dots (Closed Comedones) : They are seen as hard white dots on the face. Most people try to squeeze them to remove them but this is not a correct way to do it. Black dots (Open comedones) : They are seen as small black dots. They cause a dirty look on the skin. They can be removed by squeezing but if they are not cured properly they can reappear. Papules : Red swollen dots. Papules are the most common acne lesions. They appear as red, swollen dots on the skin.They should never be squeezed. Pustulas : White swollen dots. They are swellings with regions on the tip caused by inflammation. If they are squeezed without a treatment plan they might recur and duplicate. Nodules : They are deep, occasionally painful, hard and red swellings. They are severe acne lesions. Cists : They are painful, red, deep swellings which feel soft when pressed. They are severe acne lesions. Acne vulgaris treatment requires patience. Among the treatment options, there are oral antibiotics, creams, Vitamin A variations, chemical peeling, PRP and laser applications. It should be known that acne treatment takes at least 3 months. Acne marks are seen when treatment is applied late, or in people with genetically severe acne. It has different types. They can be divided into two groups : Superficial Marks : These marks are red and some might confuse them with not healed acnes but they are actually marks on the skin. Treatment of acne marks is a long process. First step to take is to determine the types of the acnes. Acne rosaceais a skin disease which shows itself as rash based on an increase in vascularity and inflammated pimples or red swellings in some people. It has certain stages ; Early stage : It progresses as a rash only on the face. This rash advances or declines depending on cold and hot weather, consumed beverages, spicy food and sunbeams. Late stage : In the later stages of the acne rosacea, inflammated or not red pimples appear as well. Phimosis : This is a type of acne which appears on the nose. Noses of the patients turn red and grow in years. It is a rare type of acne rosacea and it is not seen on every people. There are no certainly known factors of acne rosacea but factors which increase the possibility of this disease such as exposure to extreme cold or hot, spicy food, sunbathing, stress and using creams which are not prescribed by the doctor should definitely be avoided. Spilomas, mostly brown, swollen or non-swollen marks on the skin. It is rarely natal and most usually appear in the latter periods. There are many types of wart but all of them are cause by a virus called HPV. They are contagious as they are actually viral infections. The most common warts on the face are filiforms which have a thin thread-like shape. Melasma appears when the effects of sunbeams become apparent after years of exposure. Through a special examination made by a special light source named Wood lamb, it can be understood if the spots are superficial or deep. Superficial spots are more easily cured, whereas deep spots are relatively harder to cure. Melasma treatment is at least a 3 months long treatment, which might have to be extended to years. Solar Lentigo : Solar lentigo are brown sunspots which often appear on the hands, back and face and resemble ink splash. Solar lentigo is harmless but cosmetically it can be disturbing. Cryotherapy, TCA peeling and laser are used to treat solar lentigo.
It is a disease which causes the skin to whiten after all the melanocyte cells, which pigment our skin, are destroyed. There is no known cause of this disease. It is caused by the attack of the autoimmune system to the melanocytes. People who have vitiligo might also have Hashimoto Thyroiditis and diabetes. Vitiligo often occurs on the tips of the fingers, eyelids, around the mouth and genital area. It is curable while %50 percent of the treatment attempts fail. This is not a contagiours disease and it can become more severe over time. Therefore, it must be diagnosed correctly and treated immediately.
Tinea (Pityriasis) Versicolor
Tinea versicolor is a superficial fungal infection. It is one of the most commonly encountered disease groups in dermatology clinics. It often appears on the back, breasts and the top of the legs and is caused by a fungus called malessezia. This fungus normally exists under the normal flora of all people but transforms into an infection due to excessive sun exposure, sweating and severe physical and psychological stress. It appears as dots and patches, mostly dark colored but rather rarely white. It can be confused with sunspots but its curable if diagnosed correctly. It is not contagious but can frequently recur if the patient is not cautious.
Pityriasis rose is a very common disease. What causes this disease remains unknown but in the last few years there have been publications which claim that it might be a viral infection. This disease first shows itself as a small red rash with a mild scab in the middle, which is called a medallion. Shortly after this, small rash-like dots spread through the whole body. It does not occur on the face, legs and arms. This frightening image is not a sign of being contagious. It does not damage any organs, it is a simple skin reaction.
